Preach to your soul!
Lord, with all that is within me—my fears, my joys, my thoughts—I bless Your holy name.
Colossians 1
Psalm 103:1 – Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name!
The writer of this Psalm, David, begins by speaking to his own soul—his inner self, emotions, and thoughts. It is an internal conversation that reminds us to focus on God’s character, especially when life is difficult. This verse is a call to intentional, wholehearted worship. It encourages believers to preach to themselves, actively directing their emotions and will to honor God, rather than waiting for feelings of praise to arise naturally.
The phrase “all that is within me” signifies comprehensive worship, using every faculty—intellect, affection, and volition—to praise Him. It is not a partial, casual, or Sunday-only praise, but an all-consuming adoration of His holiness.
As long as it is ‘today’, choose to speak to my own heart and command it to praise Him!
